    Ever wonder where your nearest bike shop is? Rather oddly for a bike forum we don't have a list of all the bike shops in Edinburgh. So you might be interested in the new map on the EdFoC website showing all of Edinburgh's current bike shops and their current Covid-19 open status.

    If there are any errors or omissions please feel free to let me know.

    Thanks Kim, that's very useful. Key workers are turning to bikes as transport and they need to be able to get them repaired. Will publicise.

    @Frenchy - yes expected they may go back to opening but Cycle Service just posted this on FB.

      In light of the developing Covid-19 situation we have now made the decision to close the shop for the time being, this has not been an easy call for us to make. We are a very small business and due to reduced staffing it has become increasingly difficult to maintain levels of service we are happy with, whilst keeping ourselves and our customers safe. We will be keeping our closure under constant review, follow us here on Facebook or Instagram @thecycleservice if you would like to be kept updated.

      At the time of writing our friends @thebicycleworks @pedalsedinburgh @soulcyclesedinburgh and @eastsidebikes are still open (albeit some with reduced hours) and we would recommend them for repairs in our absence, please check their pages for further details.

      If you have a repair in with us at the moment we will be in touch shortly.

      Thank you to all our customers for their ongoing support and understanding, stay safe everyone.

    B G Cycles in Portobello was open on Monday, having been closed earlier. Big signs in windows "OPEN FOR BUSINESS" and door open.

    Bike Smith in Haymarket tells me the reason he's slow in fixing my bike is because he keeps getting calls and people dropping into the shop checking that he's open.

    @rosie bike smith could record his hours on ansaphone? Not answer phone and Get t-shirts saying YES WE ARE OPEN HOW D”YOU THINK YOU GOT IN THE DOOR?

    @gembo - he could. I don't think he's used to such a rush.

    I picked up my cycle at about 8pm. He said he was working until 11.

    Bike shops have been pressed - I imagine people are hauling cycles out of their garages and finding they aren't in the best working order.

    There are a lot of non functioning shops in Roseburn Terrace. Perhaps one could be commandeered and turned into a pop-up bike shop?

    It's too dangerous to go along Roseburn Terrace just now - with hardly any cars and loads of bikes the pollution has increased massively.

    My Gear cable snapped this evening. Does any one know what bike shops are open to have a new one fitted?

    The Bike Station is opening up for donations again if anyone has a near- or fully-functioning bike they'd like to see assimilated into the Hero Bike scheme or any of their other projects;

    Eastside Bikes open too, but busy. From their web site:

    "We are still very busy and are currently booking in about 10 days ahead. We can do punctures on the spot but the majority of other repairs will need booked into our system."

    Also interested to know- My commute/winter bike has a gear/indexing issue that’s beyond my Ken/ toolkit (possible bent hanger) to fix. It’s the sort of job that would be a 5 min job for someone with the appropriate tools/knowledge but my LBS currently has a 5-6 week backlog and that’s with them working flat out

    Try Blackhall Cycles in north Edinburgh. I'm working in partnership with them to assist with walk-in and/or emergency repairs where the cyclist needs too get back on the road quick. No long queues and I can usually deal with repairs on the spot or, at the worst, later the same day.
    Fitting a headset, old cranks, removing a bottom bracket & sorting out gear indexing are all easily doable.
