What We Do in the Shadowy Cycling Lobby... (In response to the CR discussion. Horrible news of yet another incident.)

Anyone know of a piper who could come tomorrow?

“What We Do in the Shadowy Cycling Lobby...“

Hard to know what goes on in the shadows.

Don’t think Twitter counts as “light”.

Whatever Spokes, PoP, CCEers get up to visibly or out of sight, there will always be others with other aims. Sometimes better organised and/or resourced.

I'm afraid the Piper who was so good at the Zho Min Soh minute's silence is unavailable this time.

I know a good piper locally but he is only 13 - I can ask. But might be better with an adult?

Could someone take some pavement chalk and quietly draw an X on the ground to represent anyone who would like to attend the event but is otherwise unable?

Cycled down Morningside Road at lunch time. Within 100m of yesterday's fatal collision I saw:

Cars parked on double yellow lines
Cars parked partly on the pavement
Cars stopped in yellow box junctions
Pedestrians forced to walk on the carriageway as the pavements are too narrow for social distancing

Just an observation. I have no pithy comment or words of wisdom.

Mr fimm and I are planning to be there (we both have to leave sharpish for work afterwards).

    Tag for tomorrow?

    #MtV845 or something less cryptic?

Good for photos and reports of event

Hoping to be there tomorrow. If there somewhere nearby with enough space for socially distanced waiting?

@acsimpson - the kirk at the junction would be the obvious option, although I don't know if the gates are normally open.

We are waiting for replies and have a fallback. Will post before tomorrow on the page and here about this.

Got a supportive message back from Police who will be in attendance - fairly discretely I think.

    “fairly discretely I think”

They were very good at the Princes Street vigil.

It was made clear that it wasn’t ‘organised’ by anyone, but it was intended/expected to be respectful, relatively brief and would disperse quickly.

That happened, without trouble or concerns by/about the police.

Tomorrow ought to be similar, though the site is more restricted and assembly/dispersal may require more patience.

I’m very confident that whoever is working on this (both on this forum and council and police officers) - plus all the people attending - will ensure a dignified remembrance.

Church grounds and hard standing will be opened from 8:20 and I will post to advise people to congregate there observing social distancing. The minister is aware and fully supportive.

Tomorrow a minute's silence will be held for James Harrison who died last week cycling to work:
    https://t.co/GzxWDn9UiD

It turns out he completed my road safety survey a few weeks ago - he wanted safer:
    1. Neighbourhoods,
    2. Routes to schools &
    3. Arterial routes.

    Let's do it.

Cryptic is for crosswords (and even then, I'm not fully convinced).

    How about #JamesHarrison?

Yes, but #JamesHarrison is an existing tag.

    That sounds good @Frenchy.

Does anyone know if there are already flowers there? I'm afraid I didn't look - if not then we should place some before the event so it is clear where they should be laid should anyone bring some. If so does anyone have a view where exactly we should lay them?

There are three bunches of flowers. One at the church, two opposite.
