The 80 year old who killed the cyclist in Aviemore just been given 34 months jail time (will be 17 months). WARNED twice by optometrists not to drive.
If the cyclist came off her bike on the bit of Braid Road in the photo in the EEN article, that's the bit that is currently closed to motor vehicles (and fairly well closed off, too, not the sort of thing that a careless driver could easily miss, or weave their way through).
FWIW that corner is steep, slightly off-camber, and has a rather poor surface. The barriers on the outside (visible in the photo) have been hit a number of times in the past by motorists misjudging the bend (and more than once left in a pretty hazardous state if anyone else had happened to manage leave the road at the same point before they were repaired).
I would be very happy if it was decided to make that closure permanent. AFAIK it's only the one way eastbound for motor vehicles restriction on Braidburn Terrace that was already in plan before lockdown and therefore likely to be permanent (not that that change is not also welcome).
I'm not sure how the Aviemore incident would relate to any of this. Would that not be more at home in the "rubbish driving" thread?

Yes
Apollo brand bikes really are junk. I do hope it wasn't mechanical failure.
@IWRATS, I typed something similar a couple of times before deciding it might be bordering on speculation. However having read the article and experienced a bike serviced by halfords then I'll admit that was my first thought too.
