Evening News doing a cycling special tomorrow (23/7) - do you think we’ll need the bingo card?

Early days but looking to give 4 pages in tomorrow @edinburghpaper to 'cycling special' - More details of secregated cycle lanes but also keen to speak to folk back on bikes during lockdown. Working for you? Also..the downside, is there really rise in bike theft

Shortly afterwards he then started attacking the “cycling lobby” so I’m not altogether hopeful.

How many pages is Helen Martin writing?

He just referred to the "cycle lobby". Don't get your hopes up. I'm expecting the standard "and for balance, here's an ill-informed lunatic" format.

Seems a bit odd to announce it’s happening tomorrow when they were still looking for input.

I got a call about 2, so may have a quote.

Shame I didn’t notice my typo!

    Can’t complain I was misquoted...

It’s in the print edition and hasn’t made it on to the website.

"and for balance, here's an ill-informed lunatic"

They don't even have my number.

  11. "How many other articles are there in print?"

A handcyclist pointing out segregated lanes are also good for handcycles, and that it feels like the roads are getting back to being too busy.

A general piece on the pandemic leading to a large increase in cycling (general, neutral).

Bike shops running out of bikes.

    Bike thefts going up.

How to avoid having your bike stolen.

And an academic pointing out we shouldn't lose this opportunity.

The only real bum note is in the article linked above where Susan Webber obviously points out the potential damage to the High Street....

Cyclops Webber cant read those articles. She does cycle and she does enjoy it but she cannot say that (due to the contractual nature of her sponsorship deal)

@iwrats hah! I'm still claiming that one as a win given the opinion piece published alongside.

Very much not keen on the "cycle segregation lanes" phraseology, it sounds like something that belongs with bantustan "homelands" in apartheid South Africa.

"Protected cycle routes" sounds more positive, if you ask me, and also acknowledges that, where appropriate, you can also increase protection with measures such as 20 mi/h streets (preferably with urban design to make it impossible to drive faster), or streets which are not through routes for motor traffic.

I don't want to be "othered" and segregated, I just want to be protected and safer.
