Finally. What every Scottish cyclist has been waiting for!

The new version of Cycling by Design is out!

No excuse now for substandard infrastructure. I can almost feel those ubiquitous, silky smooth segregated cycle lanes

Oh, wait...it's exactly the same as the last version apart from two very minor technical tweaks. As you were...

    What the...?

    "Revision 2,
    July 2020

Chapter 11: Cycle Audit System removed, with remaining chapters amended to refer to the new audit requirements contained within GG 142: Walking, Cycling & Horse-Riding Assessment and Review

Appendix A and B removed. Designers should refer to Traffic Signs Regulations and General Directions (2016) and relevant legislation"

Even with my low expectations of Transport Scotland, I think I must be missing something. This cannot be the extent of the revisions they've been working on for years.

    Right?

Isn't the map on page 4 missing the NCN775 between Kinross and Perth?

That map hasn't been updated since 2010.

A wee birdie tells me that a further update will be out late this year.

@Frenchy - not that I doubt you, but none of this makes any sense. It is nine years since the last update. The current update is to reflect minor regulatory changes made four years ago. If there are more changes to come within the next four months then surely it would have made sense to have a single update.

You've met Transport Scotland before, right?

This sounds exactly how I end up doing documentation, spend ages staring it and then just delete a bunch of stuff and publish at the last minute.

Has anybody mentioned the 2021 update, issued last month?

I must have missed the blaze of publicity.

@slowcoach the cynic in me suspects the reason for its appearance now is mainly to get Patrick Harvie's fizzog on page iv. A mess of pottage indeed
