The two films he made with Sidney Lumet are worth a look The Offence is dark and The Anderson Tapes early use of surveillance.

Darby O’Gill and the Little People is maybe his worst?

I saw The Rock in the actual cinema and it was indeed ultra-camp funny.

They will both feature in the sean sheashun com8ng up

Along with Anderson tapes and The Offence.

Well there was a similar season in about 1987 and these were the films, except zardoz as bbc had banned crazy undercrackers.

Marnie, that is a bad one, misogynistic Hitchcock piffle

"The Eternals spend their days stewarding mankind's vast knowledge – through a voice recognition-based search engine – baking special bread for themselves from the grain deliveries and participating in communal meditation rituals". from Wikipedia entry for Zardoz.

Sounds like it's set in Portobello.

My only, very brief, encounter with Sir Sean. He was in the city as patron of the Film Festival - crossed paths by chance as he was leaving the building that I was just going in to, no flunkies, cameras or anyone else around. He stopped and held the door open for me. Pure class. RIP big guy.

My mate Prof Big Davie Whyrte used to be a barman in the Fiddlers Arms. One of the local soaks got a job as steward, at the tattoo. Sir Sean had a part maybe at the time of the remake of Thunderball, never say never again. The soak, let’s call him Hughie was old tollcross. His wife a childhood sweetheart. Hughie bumps into Sir Sean, he says to him Big Tam ye’ll no remember me and the wife from back in the the day. sir Sean Goes Hughie, of coursh. Hughie is lke ooh, come down the fiddlers and meet the wife, Sheila. Sir Sean is like, ok. Hughie is cock a hoop phoning Sheila ye’ll need to get up the fiddlers it’s big Tam fae back in the day.

Shug comes into the Fiddlers, Sheila in their usual seats, he says, here he is, big Tam. From back in the day. Sheila says, nah, the face dusnae ring a bell ....

Now, why can't all gentlemen on bikes dress (and look) like Sir Sean?

    An example to you all.

Watched Time Bandits last night. Probably un-PC by today’s standards, but some classic moments.

Interesting concept, that one. I am for letting art be art of its time but there sure are some posers, like the dog in The Dam Busters.

People who judge art by the thought-purity of the artist I always remind them that Caravaggio would have raped and killed most of us for a laugh.

@iwrats I mostly agree (especially when it comes to books), but have added complication of (a) deciding if it’s appropriate to show the kids and (b) risk that kids themselves will be appalled judgemental.
