Given the hell of this year I doubt trump is leaving office, whether he wins the election is a totally different question.

Hah!
I was thinking about a thread, then decided not to.
(I’m not disapproving.)

I’m with those who say - ‘whoever wins, however convincingly, things won’t settle back down any time soon’.

I wonder if Putin/Trump have any plans for manipulating the electronic voting.
I expect an unholy mess.

It's none of my business who the electoral college chooses but for two elections running you'd have to hold your nose to vote for the one who isn't a mobbed-up bankrupt sex pest with a personality disorder.
Says quite something about their political system.

I still have hopes for a biden landslide, although I'm sure to be disappointed.

i think its fair to say that the fix is in

“I'm sure to be disappointed“
I think a proper proper “landslide” is unlikely.
Today’s ’story’ is that the result depends (partly) on “shy Republicans” (those unwilling to admit to voting for Biden).
The questions I have for people in the USA -
Why is the electoral college system still in use? (Shades of the Old Sarum parliamentary seat).
Why hasn’t the Republican Party done more to repudiate Trump?
Why do the Democrats think a 78yo President is a) a good idea, b) their best candidate?

California 'undeniably' on track for record number of votes - live
Early numbers show 8.6m Latinos have already voted
US Elections Project say over 100m Americans have already voted

Trump’s margin last time was so small. Surely they can overturn it.
Posted 3 years ago # -
Most likely
But it’s still down to electoral college (and therefore key states).
Surprising number of Trump supporters who STILL believe he will revive ‘their’ bits of dead economy - plus safeguard fracking etc.

Newsrooms across the United States are bracing for a potentially volatile election night, after reports suggested that Donald Trump is planning to declare “victory” on Tuesday even before results from critical battleground states have been determined.
The president’s reported intention to make a premature – and potentially false – victory speech by the end of Tuesday night, with large numbers of mail-in ballots yet to be counted, has provoked intense journalistic debate. TV channels would be under pressure to air such an event on grounds that it is “news”, while aware that it amounted to dangerous misinformation that could stir violence across the nation and undermine the democratic process.

Yes he just said he won. About 20 mins back
This is the opposite of Al Gore admitting defeat as was the custom then not. Being able to convince people about the hanging chads inFlorida
He must figure all postal votes will be for Biden or maybe he is only contesting the postal votes for Biden, the postal votes for Trump are fine?

Do we need an American elections thread?
no

Got one.
Posted 3 years ago # -
That doesn't mean we need one. I have clipless pedals but that doesn't means I need them.

I've never knowingly met acsimpson, but they sound great. I am in full accordance.

“That doesn't mean we need one.”
True of course and the same goes for the other “Do we need” threads.
Perhaps we need to agree on who “we” are...!

I have met both acsimpson, Iain McR and clipless pedals. Do not make me choose.
Posted 3 years ago # -
We have that soul chilling brexit thread, give us some light relief.
Posted 3 years ago # -
I don’t choose clipless pedals.
(Does that help?)
I’ve no idea what I need.
I’ve definitely got lots of things I don’t need (obviously I need [nearly] all the bikes I’ve got).

Do ‘we’ need a “light relief” thread?
Posted 3 years ago # -
Or do I mean -
Do ‘we’ need a “light relief” thread?
Posted 3 years ago # -
Admittedly most other threads could be classified as light relief.
Posted 3 years ago # -
can confirm we need lights at this time of the year.
Posted 3 years ago # -
Strange definition of "light relief" on this thread, unless all we discuss is nowt whatsoever to do with the US elections, in which case fair dos.
