A female cyclist has been seriously injured in a crash in the Capital.
i thought it was closed except for buses?
CityCyclingEdinburgh was launched on the 27th of October 2009 as "an experiment".
IT’S TRUE!
CCE is 15years old!
Well done to ALL posters
It soon became useful and entertaining. There are regular posters, people who add useful info occasionally and plenty more who drop by to watch. That's fine. If you want to add news/comments it's easy to register and become a member.

Very bad indeed
Speculation no other vehicle involved?
No speculation
Worry that this will be twisted by the antis into an argument against spaces for people. I.e somebody crashed into a bollard so we must remove them all and go back to the status quo - of course missing the irony that the status quo is far more dangerous than segregated infrastructure.
That’s speculation
CCE Rule 2.5
Speculation about this sort of thing is (usually) unhelpful.
This road is part of a loop I do regularly.
From the shore to the roundabout is closed except for buses but occasionally I see cars using it.
It alternates between double/single road/cycle lanes for passing. Uphill I use the cycle lane, downhill I use the bus lane because of the speed reached - silly otherwise.
The guy from the Boardwalk is using this as part of his campaign against spaces for people on Facebook
Hope they make a swift recovery. Without speculating about this incident but just in general, the lane on Silverknowes road seems very safe to me. We've always driven our kids to Cramond prom, now the bollards are there my preferred parking is up at Silverknowes away from the hotspots and use those lanes.
STATS19 shows a few injured and one fatality historically on the old layout. Haven't tried to dig into it.
Yes, I hope the cyclist makes a good recovery.
Not these lanes as I avoid the whole area now due to the toxic stench emanating from the boardwalk cafe.
But the downhill lanes on Lanark Road must be taken slowly.
It's so weird to see people raging about these lethal bollards but the place the cyclist came off is literally wide enough to drive a bus up. I was expecting it to be at a junction where the bollards tighten up, but the bollards are further from the kerb than the two kerbs outside our house.
Also an SUV was driven into a house recently. Amazingly, the topiary out the front bounced back and survived. The bay window and door not so much.
All on a road with unnecessary central hatching == fast for drivers.
Where's the call to remove all houses?
Where's the call to remove the hatching?
Where's the call to remove the 'dangerous' pavement that was driven over?
Where's the call to straighten out the bend?
Where the call to bypass the entire site and then nuke the site from orbit?

“Where's the call to...”
Quite
@neddie: Amazingly, the topiary out the front bounced back and survived. The bay window and door not so much.
I think the vehicle actually missed the topiary by a fraction. When I passed that way on Tuesday you could see, from the section of garden wall that it had demolished, that it must have passed to the right of the road sign in front of the house - the signpost showed no sign of having been hit or even grazed. (I'd post a screenshot from my dashcam but Flickr is refusing to play ball - again.)
It seems to have hit the corner of the room to the left of the front door hardest (the photo on the BBC's report of the incident shows some nasty looking cracks in the north-eastern corner of the property). I think it must have rotated slightly clockwise in the collision, coming to rest almost perpendicular to the front wall of the house thus giving the impression that it had passed over the topiary.
If you look at the junction from above, I reckon the car went straight on on the approach to the mini roundabout - thus drifting rightwards across the hash marks as the road curves slightly left - then passed pretty much on the wrong side of the mini roundabout before launching off the kerb, taking the garden wall down but missing the road sign. It seems likely to me that there was zero steering input during the whole incident (and there weren't any signs of heavy braking that I could see either).
Bear in mind also that the approach to the mini roundabout from that direction is uphill. They must have been going at a heck of a rate to end up where they did.
The front of the house is all covered on hoardings now, presumably while repairs are being organised.
Good analysis, ejstubbs
I still think it was the fault of the topiary. They should rip out all topiaries, just to be certain
Terrible to hear of accident and of course angry that usual suspects are using against SfP.
Thoughts go to her making a good recovery.
As far as infra is concerned I was on there last year on test ride tour with client when whole road was available. On our way down to Marine Drive we saw a cyclist on ground with friends round just before mini roundabout. We stopped but ambulance had been called. No idea what had happened. My point is that the road will have had accidents before as @Dave commented. More cycling will see a rise but proportionally smaller as safety in numbers.
