I was out at the Covenanters Grave tonight with The Shadow. He was measuring up grouse butts.

West of West Linton Golf Course the road which is pretty good, though I buckled a wheel on a big rock on return, anyways the road seems to be there for what seems to be a defunct hydro scheme. Anyone know anything about this? @kaputnik? We went in from Carlops on the Roman Road which was good.

So... How wide is a grouse's butt?

Is it a hydro scheme or Westwater Reservoir?

Think there are intakes on the Medwin Water and maybe some of the other local streams. Not sure if that's to feed Westwater or there is/was some hydro element.

West Water Reservoir is for drinking water, not hydro, and Baddinsgill is a trout reservoir. The nearest hydro power scheme is probably TLS' Cleghorn Bridge near Lanark, but it's quite small compared with Scottish Power's facility at Corra Linn.

Much smaller reservoir. The out building has had windows bricked up. The dam still takes two streams into a pond and then diverts water to the hydro pipes and one stream

    Pretty but remote

Muc( further west than the two dams accessible from the Gowfie on good tarmac.

Diagonal ranged from 196mm to 212mm

    Smell was sheepy

    Excellent shelter

There is a fancy development Slipperfield way just at end of Gowfie before the wilderness. These grand designs bizarrely echoed the Butts or Stakes as the drunk toffs call them. Evidence of their various toiletary functions
