"One morning I paused and noticed a young Muslim woman standing next to me wearing a colourful hijab and burka. I smiled down at her from atop my bright yellow tricycle and asked if she would like to race. To my surprise and delight she immediately responded while assuming a proper runner’s stance, looked me in the eye and said firmly “Let’s go!”

    Joyous.

Lovely article, appears not to have attracted comments?

I've met him as he came round with chain tension somewhat slack. He's a regular of Chris and Hannah at CS. Trike is a fixed wheel machine so needs to be ridden carefully. Nice guy (and dog CoCo) and big supporter of SfP - one reason I think why he decided now was the time to get one.

Suddenly I flipped over and landed upon the pavement with a loud crash. The bright yellow tricycle was now on top of me and though somewhat dazed and blushing with embarrassment, I managed to slowly came to my senses and upright my vehicle.

That's a problem with trikes. Everyone that's ridden one will overturn them sooner or later. Low down ones of course take more to flip over but it can be done. At an NMS Wheels and Wings event a teenager flipped an ICE Sprint by weaving it from side to side and applying one brake hard to one front wheel causing the rear to lift and turn over. He was ok but we had to report back as to how we allowed this to happen on a flat bit of road. Was accepted and we had taken out massive insurance for event of course.

I haven’t flipped my ICE yet but I have had some brown pants moments coming round downhill bends too fast and the rear end has started to fishtail. It’s definitely a different dynamic to two wheels and needs a bit of care.

Lovely article. Trikes are a lot of fun. You can do stupid stuff like try to ride up hills when the road is covered in ice and you get the added fun of sledging backwards to where you started when you lose forward momentum.
