Behind the scenes I've been getting help to borrow a gazebo. Thanks @hankchief and @NiallA. Also @SRD for checking.

LB Bikes will have a stall in Leith Links and should have an e-cargo bike and trike to try out. Maybe a third item if we can trailer it down. We'll be happy to see any forumers down there of course.
Previously done NMS Wheels and Wings and the Leith Cycle Fair. Former did need a van to move around 6 bikes out. This is meant to be low impact this time of course but bikes won't cycle themselves!

The Edinburgh Climate Festival 2021, a free, family friendly & community-led marketplace event taking place for the first time in Leith Links East on Saturday 14th August from 12noon to 7pm. It aims at celebrating and inspiring climate action. Featuring performances, stalls, kids’ and adults’ activities and more, this is not to be missed!

Highlights of the ‘marketplace’ festival include:

    • Family/Kids area

    • Market and stalls

    • Background music

    • Upcycling workshops

    • Henna painting

    • Seed planting workshops

    • Storytelling and arts and craft

    • Free clothes repairs

    • Free bike repairs

    • Electric bike trials

    • Swap shop / free shop with clothes, books, shoes & more!

    • Free Yoga classes

More details to come soon along the themes of COP26, low carbon food, travel, energy and zero waste.

Was a non stop day of bike try outs last Saturday. Certainly 'sold' the idea if not any actual bikes! Nice to see a few forumers and customers in the passing! Was amazed at how quickly people got started learning to ride what in effect are large bikes with childen on baors. Yes we should also have done tandeming and adapted trikes but our hands were full.
So grateful for the help we got. You know who you are!

Energy use was amazingly low. Gazebo, table, chair and pull up promo stuff all brought down and back up on cargo bikes & trike. Plus one e-bike with trailer.
Batteries on cargo bikes had 100Wh left. So our fleets used under 1kw of energy for dozens of test rides. Also had two other UAs there and same story. An EV on other hand could have moved 100 yards on that!

FarrOut deliveries helped a big deal moving Bike For Refugees stall and others.

After we'd finished trialling the Bakfiets, one family were immediately afterwards insisting on taking it for a spin with their kids on board.

They thought I was the owner / operator and Mr Laidback was nowhere to be seen. I tried to explain, but their English wasn't great, and they were very insistent.

Their kids got aboard and the lady took it off the kickstand, but she definitely was not competent to handle such a bike. I was fearful there was going to be kid spillage. Fortunately, her self awareness of capabilities took hold and she declined to pedal.

While all this was happening, another family pitched up and tried to tell us, "the queue is over there" !!! Confusion all round!

We chose an opportune moment to run away.

@neddie - I couldn't be everywhere at once! :-) Kim was doing some too but at one point people were overloading us. Mrs LB was trying to keep order.

We had couple of minor spills with adults dropping partners out the bucket later on. We are massively insured and I did try and take time to explain - although one set of parents actually allowed their children loose on Nihola trike at other side of Links (as bikes are toys sort of thing).

If we had crammed bikes onto a smaller area with cones and tapes we reckon risk of collisions was higher than allowing people space to ride away from stand.

I wore my mask all day as was interacting with massive amount of random Covid contacts. Most people didn't bother. Cases are rising rapidly now as forecast.
