My friend is looking at buying a used bike from Gumtree but my knowledge beyond new Decathlon bikes is fairly useless.

    It's this bike: https://www.gumtree.com/p/bicycles/muddy-fox-temp-200-hybrid-adult-bike-/1415472241

Not sure if anyone can spot some sort of deal breaker that I'm oblivious to?

Muddy Fox is a budget brand and this bike might be quite heavy with those cheap suspension forks. Check the lockout still works.

The spec claims 7-speed cassette (21 speed) but the shifters are 8 speed. If true this is...odd. On plus side fitting an 8 speed cassette should work just fine.

But otherwise, if it hasn't been rusting in the garden (or been ridden to death), rides OK and doesn't have any crash damage, £130 seems an OK price. I'd budget for some mudguards though!

Also: check the frame number on the bike register to make sure it isn't nicked.

For roughly the same money you could buy my sons Edinburgh Contour MTB that he no longer uses - IMHO is a considerably better bike.
Fully serviced by me (trained bike mechanic) & I'll chuck in a free 3 month service.
I'm currently away in Portugal on a cycling trip but will be home in a couple of days if you are interested in arranging a viewing.
