@Crowriver, SNP/CON loss and Lib/Green gain in Forth. It's going to be an interesting ward to look at as subsequent preference voting seems to have made quite a difference from 1st preferences.

@acsimpson, yes in Forth the Green got in at round 8, in Inverleith round 10.

CON/SNP/SNP/LAB in Sue Webber's old ward which is an SNP gain from CON: https://twitter.com/Edinburgh_CC/status/1522540468629823489

An absolute collapse in the Tory vote in Forth, resulting in losing their seat - from 28% FPs to 15%
Electorally, well done to the Lib Dems in Almond, can't say I see the attraction myself but getting 3 out of 4 seats I would have said was almost impossible, getting 60% FPs is remarkable. Why is NW Edinburgh such a Lib Dem stronghold?
Would be nice to think the local Tories will respond to their shellacking by reconsidering their anti-people transport policies, but I suspect they'll just blame Ross and Johnson

Wow. Green councillor in Sighthill/Gorgie. Interesting and possibly unexpected? Again it appear Tory vote collapsed, Green vote held up. Bit of a local grudge match here with former Tory Cllr running as independent, splitting the vote.

Ashley Gracyzk never really seemed to be a "natural" Tory.
Her resignation was great. Tories do cruel and evil things eh, who knew?
Looking at her first prefs she seems to have a fairly decent bloc all of her own.
*Extremely* pleased Dan Heap got in after being pipped at the post by the 2nd SNP candidate last time.

Interesting to see a Labour surge in Fountainbridge/Craiglockhart at the expense of Greens and (to a lesser extent) SNP. Another Lib Dem gain in Corstorphine/Murrayfield and a Tory loss.

Feels like Ashley Gracyzk simply replaced by Dan Heap? I'm pleased (this is my ward), though agree Ashley Gracyzk was good. 35.9% turnout seems poor?Posted 2 years ago # -
@crowriver The breakdowns on Inverleith will be interesting, but the first prefs are a smidge depressing, if unsurprising - the folk in the big hooses do like their SUVs. Still, glad to see Bandel made it even if only by a whisker, hopefully she can make enough of an impression locally to stick around.

@fimm 39.8 last time so a bit down. Tories stayed home? We're usually a low turnout ward

If I'm reading this right, Fountainbridge/Craiglockhart is the first ward announced where the Conservatives haven't lost a councillor.

The fingers on my hand tentatively say that the muttered-about SNP/Green coalition is collectively up 4 seats across the announced wards. The fingers on my other hand say that they'd need to gain 5 seats overall for a majority.

@Yodhrin, I expect a touchstone issue in the New Town was keeping gull-proof bin bags...

Interesting result in Morningside. On the surface, no change, but when you look closer all parties except the Tories got in at the first stage. Tory had to wait until stage 7. Last time around, Nick Cook was the only one to get in at stage 1...

Could be hard for the Greens to hold their Fountainbridge/Craiglockhart seat on those FP%s. Basically need to get a high %age of Lib Dem and smaller party transfers in preference to Labour and SNP
Posted 2 years ago # -
They didn't hold it - it went to Labour
Posted 2 years ago # -
@crowriver - fascinating. thanks for that analysis.

GRN/SNP/LAB/LD in Leith Walk. SNP down one to 2017, down two to the 2019 byelection. Not great for them.
Posted 2 years ago # -
It's looking possible that the Conservatives will be the smallest party on the council.

Cameron Rose out.

Lib Dem surge in Southside/Newington at the expense of Tories.
If Labour have rebranded as the "nice Unionists" (with Tories as the nasty ones), then are Lib Dems the "nice pro-motorists" (with Tories as the nasty ones)?
Look forward to endless calls from Lib Dem councillors for "more consultation required" on just about everything...

Cameron Rose out.
Looking a bit more than "possible" now...

I must express surprise at the Lib Dem surge in Leith Walk ward. Possibly a change of heart from keen motorists in the Abbeyhill Colonies and Pilrig? The new parking zones and bin hubs have been controversial. I was rather hoping that we'd elect a Communist councillor, but sadly it was not to be...
Cracking result for Susan Rae though - top of the poll twice in a row!

Some of the new LibDems are extremely supportive of active travel (particularly Sanne Dijkstra-Downie). Perhaps having a larger group, and seeing the clear mandate of the rest of the councillors elected, will give them the confidence to back things properly?

Iain Whyte makes it back in over in his new ward of Craigentinny/ Duddingston. SNP/LAB/CON/GRN

"Cameron Rose out."
Finally.

Looking at the Leith Walk vote, familiar pattern emerges of Tory vote collapsing and transferring to Lib Dems. To be fair, Lib Dems had a good candidate this time (on he left of party and a cyclist also), but to go from 398 1st preferences to 1,317 is quite a turnaround!
In addition to parking and bins, suspect the tram roadworks had an impact this time around too.

Okay so fewer Tories is the good news. Maybe a few more Greens too, need to wait for the remaining results. Mixed bag for the SNP. Some gains for Labour. Lib Dems mopping up most of the Tory losses and some SNP ones.
I have this horrible feeling that we might be looking at an SNP/Lib Dem coalition. Either that or Lib Dems will be main opposition. Either way, we'll have to get used to hearing the phrase "we need more consultation with local residents" a LOT.

will be interesting to see what lessons they take from Tory collapse... some of the individual Lib Dems are sensible enough.
