Climate justice campaigners have condemned the US after the world’s largest historic greenhouse gas emitter argued against countries being legally obliged to combat the climate crisis.
The US intervention came on Wednesday as part of the historic climate hearing at the international court of justice (ICJ) in The Hague, where island nations and other climate-vulnerable countries are calling for wealthy polluting nations most responsible for climate breakdown to be held legally responsible.
Climate disasters are wreaking havoc across the planet, with dwindling hope of the current climate pledges curtailing global temperatures as the US and other fossil fuel nations continue to expand production.

So Labour are going to allow shoddy house builders to decimate nature and put down fossil-heated, badly-insulated, car-dependent, sh***y cardboard boxes everywhere?
The crazy thing is, there ISN'T A SHORTAGE OF HOUSING! We have more houses per capita than the USA! Adding more housing stock won't fix anything unless we address the problem in the way those houses are distributed and used.

The future homes standard forbids new homes from having gas at all, so that's something at least.
Whether they all end up with wood-burning stoves instead remains to be seen.
The overall quality will, of course, be abysmal. Cue the Welsh building inspector bloke exclaiming "THAT'S RIDICULOUS!!!" until the end of time.
I suspect Client Earth will be warming up their lawyers to challenge some aspects of the Rayner-fronted plan.

With fans travelling halfway across the country, stars expecting first class flights and venues serving up beefburgers and drinks in plastic cups the worlds of professional sport and live music share a pretty poor reputation for environmental impact. Add in the wasteful habits of high end film and TV productions and it starts to look as though anything that's fun has a disproportionate impact on the planet.

Commentators pointed out that the oil products, if spilled into the Black Sea, would cause serious ecological damage to a marine environment already badly affected by war.
The Volgoneft-212 was 55 years old, registered in St Petersburg and recently refitted. The centre was cut out and the stern and bow were welded together, forming a huge seam in the middle. It is this section that appears to have broken.
