That was my estimate. Just could not see Bill.

Like Bill is on the Check In but not a number in a wee green circle on the Route?

Ah. The live trackers were extra, don't think Bill has one.

@acsimpson has one & is 224 on the live tracking site (S45 on the Control Check In site)

    I don't know @murun's rider number / tracking details.

Hadn’t realised we had three LEL riders. Doesn’t it need its own thread?

Can anyone explain why they’re going to Dunfermline? And St Ives? Is that normal?

I have resurrected the LEL thread to continue the chat on our riders

Who's up for the Devil's Porridge this Sunday?

I can't do this weekend but I'm hoping to fit a 600 in before the end of the season. Either a DIY 600 or possibly an ECE of the border nights. I'd welcome company if anyone else is interested.

    @acsimpson are you after a brevet 5000?

I have entered Devil's Porridge but it looks like home responsibilities will be forefront next weekend. @acsimpson I am down for Border Nights, don't mind ECEing but for me it would have to be tacked on to the end as I am struggling to make the start as it is

@amir I am after a Randonneur 2500 and should get the Randonneur 5000 and have a stretch goal of 50 AAA points

I'm after the SR2500 too having failed my attempted 600 in June. Even if I get the 600 then I'll only be on 3800 for the year so no realistic chance of getting 5000.

I've entered the borders nights and will be riding up to the start from the premier in near Whitehaven.

Thanks, I still need to complete the 600.

I've decided to dip my toe in the audax water and have just joined Audax UK. Maybe I'll finally be able meet some of you in person and put a name to a CCE handle!

Super. Did I already mention here that my first Audax was just a month or so after the previous LEL?

I had originally planned to start training for LEL about 18 months ago and try to get an entry, but Covid and life got in the way. I did a 200 miler on my recumbent during lockdown and felt I could have easily gone further which was encouraging, but recently have mostly switched back to wedgie bikes and I don't have anywhere near the same confidence in my comfort levels :)

So planning to start with around 100 miles and build it up to see how it goes.

I'm actually thinking of trying out using flats with my Vivobarefoot shoes for long distance cycling. One of the big problems I had on recumbents was foot pain due to circulation problems and pedal stroke differences in a very reclined position. I have reynauds which exacerbates the hot foot problems that beset a lot of recumbent riders. Much better on a wedgie bike but still needs work.

Normally I ride SPD-SL with Patrocleat adapters to move the cleats back. Anything that puts the pedal under the ball of foot causes me pain regardless of bike. I rode midsole on the recumbents but that has its own problems on normal bikes, mainly toe strike.

Patrocleat adapters I am finding quite good. I don't think SPD is a great choice for me due to the foot pain issues and difficulty in moving the cleats back, so either I stick with the SPD-SL and Patrocleats or go completely flat pedal and trail shoes.

I did the Skinny Tweed on my Tarmac with OneUp MTB pedals and Vivo trainers just for fun. I think I offended quite a few people. Got 4th though so didn't seem to slow me down :)

Although I see Patrocleat are now selling SPD adapters too. Didn't see these for sale when I ordered the 3 bolt adapters. Might need to try them out.

I’ve ordered a set of the Patrocleat SPD adapters. I’m really keen to try and get back to SPD for audax if I can. Will report back when I’ve tried them out. The SPD SL adapters are just the thing so am hopeful.

It will be good to see you, no brakes. Still quite a few local runs this year :)

I don’t yet have a bike I can use, I’ve just sold one to fund the purchase. Unfortunately n can’t get any bigger so it’s n-1+1 :) Will be good to meet up at some point though. I’m sure you overtook us once on the granites on our recumbent tandem.

I’ll be starting with sensible distances!

Anybody else doing Tour o the Borders on Sunday?

A fun (in the Scottish sense) ride at the Tour o the Borders today. First 2 hours were strong winds and lashing rain which made things interesting. Eye protection essential!

    Well done @nobrakes !

In top 20 and 7 mins faster than ride on your recliner.
Target I think is to get below 3.30 for 75 miles of bordering?

I’ll need to wait till the official results are posted for final placing, but 18th out of all Strava users, so quite pleased with that after Covid hassles in July.

Times seemed slower this year probably due to the very strong wind, I did 3.48 which was well off my hoped for pace. But yes, faster than my m5 time. 3.30 seems like a very hard target to reach, have to try harder before age removes the possibility:)

We got hit by a gust along Megget right next to a photographer and it was like everybody had slammed on the brakes, we all nearly stopped it was so fierce.

Great fun though and as usual extremely well organised. A smashing event.

Results are up but not yet sorted. 39th. I was 110th last time so that's a good improvement.

Somebody apparently did 3:0:05 which seems impossibly fast for a solo effort.

14th fastest mamil in the 40-49 category. Very pleased with that.

Lyons, Lawers and Moors 200 Audax from Dunblane last Saturday again this year. Just as good as last year, or maybe even better as I had company for most of the ride, expect for the long climbs and descents where we would stretch out and regroup later.

Glen of Balgie Tearoom has changed hands since last year and now accepts the cards. Cakes and service still fabulous.

The road from Bridge of Balgie to Ben Lawers dam has been resurfaced.

Glen Lyon road was everyone's highlight.

I am yet to try the road that extends to Pubil and Kencock. I remember reading reports on its state here that it was poor.
