Fun little tweet selection there. It's an odd world when "we need to do works to preserve this historical landmark" results in "rabble rabble now the Tories will win the elections and save us!" - I always wonder if they've forgotten what "conservative" means or if they somehow think Tories would be able to conduct substantial roadworks without any disruption, perhaps via some kind of witchcraft?

@Yofhrin, "...they somehow think Tories would be able to conduct substantial roadworks without any disruption, perhaps via some kind of witchcraft?"

You cotton on quick. Tories would call it "the invisible hand of the market". If they get in, that's about all the city residents will have left to deliver essential services...

The alternative to the bridge works is North Bridge eventually collapsing onto Waverley station. I wonder what Edinburgh's resident twitter consulting engineers/transport planners would make of that?

If only there was a handy route for pedestrian & cycle traffic from Market Street to Calton Road, sort of through the roof of Waverley Station.... oh wait....

Back in 1980's Don Heath, head of BR Electrification projects used slack time to send his team out to look at future projects & make notes (even do interim plans!) With the integrated railway of the time he'd have a quiet word with track/bridge maintenance/renewals people and get little details included in the work, ready for the green light on electrification. Can't help thinking that the basics for tram tracks down the Bridges might be set out
