A huge amount of work as now transferred away from drawn vector files (some started in Freehand 2 back in the early mac days).
Well done to new cartographer and data collectors (prob on here?) for updating using Open Street Map base. Same treatment as new Midlothian one I imagine?
Looking forward to seeing.
Of course a list of missing things will now appear but it will be easier to update from now on!Posted 3 years ago # -
Does this mean that all things on the Spokes map are also on Open Street Map, just hidden somewhere? Or have Spokes kept their own proprietry bit?

From what I remember from talking to the Spokes Cartographer pre-pandemic(!), The biggest problem with the old spokes map was that the previous mapping had used the spaces between the city and the bypass to give more room for mapping, however now those areas had been filled in, the map had to be redrawn from scratch.
So the obvious choice was to replace the old entirely manual cartography (as LaiddBack said) with a base map from OpenStreetMap and some of the open OS data as well. This is then layered up with the spokes map magic.
Still quite a manual process but by importing the basemap, it should be easier to keep up to date.
