Quick appeal if anyone on here was witness to a road rage incident today where a driver who I had an altercation with on Teviot place, took 15 mins to hunt me down finding me on Home Street before jumping out his car and chase me up the pavement to outside Pepe's on the corner with Gilmore Place opposite the King's. Fortunately the number of people there may have helped to prevent a physical assault.

I spoke to a cyclist seconds later so hoping they may be on here.

Wow, Sorry to hear that David. Deeply unpleasant. Are you a member of the University's Staff Cycling Team? If not, I could ask there.

Thanks all! Was quite shaken at the time but could have been a lot worse. Was on the step through ebike at the time with the child seat on the back. Driver did punishment pass on the right turn from Bristo Pl onto Teviot Pl, cutting me up and pushing me over to the left.

I don't use the painted lane there as it puts you into conflict with the cars coming out from the Potterrow direction as you come around the corner and I was going at ~17mph on the ebike anyway.

It was a deliberatly close pass to make a point despite the fact the driver could not have known there wasn't a child in the back of my bike. They gave thier motive away by immediately shouting that I should be in the bike lane. They were also shouting that I touched thier car, which I assume they think happened as they forced me to the left.

They were looking for the confrontation. Even stopped again at the A&E entrance to the Old Royal so must have lost it when I waved and headed down Middle Meadow Walk.

Quite something that they then scoured the streets to find me again at Lochrin Pl.

Hopefully someone with this little self-control is already known to the police.

Definately asking Santa for a camera for Christmas. Any suggestions?

@NiallA Do you mean the Bike Users Group? I think I am on that but it is a good call as I didn't think of posting there.

If you know exact times then you might be able to get some footage from a bus. I had a similar incident earlier this year with a driver jumping out their car and LB were able to provide the footage to the police.

Good suggestion @Wout Van Aerthur Seat. I suspect that the camera at Biketrax would have caught him jumping out his car and chasing me and they keep thier footage for 30 days. I am going to speak to a couple of other places to check how long they keep thier footage.

I suspect the shops might be reluctant to hand over their CCTV footage to you, but they would be much more likely to do so if requested by the police. So by all means ask them, but then give their contact details to the police as sources of evidence for your complaint of assault (you have reported it to the police, haven't you?)

I wonder if this person is a regular on route. Obviously know how bikes move through city. May even be in the 'I'm a cyclist but' faction.
Repair places in Lochrin - maybe on way there anyway. Sane people don't do a stake out as driving far too time consuming. What was the make of car?
Edit: Lochrin Place is main Gilmore route. Anyway still a stake out and inconvenient to park.
    Shocking.

@ejstubbs I was more concerned that the footage may be overwritten. From the conversations I've had, they are used to giving footage to the Police.

@LaidBack Interesting point about know how of bike routes. He definately wasn't going into Lochrin Place apart from to assault me but it would be a natural route from George IV bridge to, say Bruntsfield by car. The level of rage that the driver still had 10 minutes after the first altercation made me think that he must have been looking for me but it seems more likely that it was an unfortunate coincidence.

So maybe not a stake out but I'd certainly query the sanity of someone who intentionally performs a punishment pass on a cyclist, then 10 minutes later is still so aggrieved at them that they abandon thier car to chase them up a street to shout and scream at them in front of other people.

    But, but.....you touched his motor!

(Yeah I know he forced you over to the side with his driving of the vehicle, but this situation clearly resulted from what he thinks happened)

I'm sorry this happened to you. Some people are aggressive a-holes. When they're operating heavy machinery, they become dangerous.
