Any one ridden the "Kips Bypass" runs down from the base of West Kip to Green Cluech? Oddly says cycling forbidden in kommute but I can't really see why given access codes, I've ran it before and can't think of reason that it would be dodgy on a mtb.

    This path? https://www.openstreetmap.org/way/220438003#map=15/55.8364/-3.3095

It is tagged as "Bicycle=no" on openstreetmap, which might be the source of kommute saying cycling is forbidden. I suspect whoever tagged it this way was thinking more about whether it was possible (on a non-mountain bike) than about whether it was allowed (which is what bicycle=no is supposed to be used for).

I've also pedestrianed along it, and also can't think of any reason it'd be particularly dodgy on a mountain bike. You might need to push at the very northern end of the path though, as I think it is pretty steep there?

Yeah thats the one, forgot its got that really steep bit at that end probably worth remembering before hitting it!

Might try and find the time to ride it next week and if I don't die I think I'll remove that tag. Since cycling is not forbidden its a bit misleading.

edit: just checked the weather forecast. Maybe in a few weeks....

Yeah - from rusty memory I think that should be doable, but a quick swatch at OS maps shows the first section would be a killer on the legs. Also, from a saunter up Braid Hill today I reckon mud/bog could be a problem.

    Definitely going to be muddy!

Went over Maidens yesterday, the semi slick rear tyre on my mtb made it "interesting" :)

You can definitely ride it, I've done so a few times and there are no gates etc. just a couple of deep ditches, bit wet probably in parts. Strava segment here: https://www.strava.com/segments/4732540?filter=overall

Rode it this afternoon, lost track of time so it was pitch black when I was coming down. Quite a difficult track even on a mtb but certainly not the worst path in the Pentlands. I think I'll remove that tag.

@dave I also thought to check the heat map, it's a pretty busy path.

Definitly worth correcting this one, definitly worth removing the bicyle=no - but worth adding surface and smoothness tagging, to help the routers avoid sending road bikes aliong....

What is the surface and smoothness, normal options are here:

I'm sure it would be a riot on a road bike.

A woman I follow (on instagram) rides down that regularly on her gravel bike (just recognised it) she's a machine.

@chrisfl tags added, loved the smoothness key.

Went with smoothness very horrible! Sounds like it was dreamt up in the pub!
