but Russian and Belarusian riders on other teams can still compete.
seems not entirely fair to the foreign riders? Not sure I have a better suggestion though.
CityCyclingEdinburgh was launched on the 27th of October 2009 as "an experiment".
IT’S TRUE!
CCE is 15years old!
Well done to ALL posters
It soon became useful and entertaining. There are regular posters, people who add useful info occasionally and plenty more who drop by to watch. That's fine. If you want to add news/comments it's easy to register and become a member.
RULES No personal insults. No swearing.

Oleg Tinkoff criticises Russian invasion
Can't see fellow team riders being too keen on association with Russian riders. Team sponsors probably even less so.
Nice gesture here: https://www.cyclingweekly.com/news/drone-hopper-androni-giocattoli-riders-wear-replica-ukrainian-national-champion-jerseys-emblazoned-with-nowar
@Morningsider Is cycling as a sport full of people that are so narrow-minded? Barring a national team due to the actions of the nation they represent is one thing, holding an entire people collectively responsible for a government they may well not agree with or even have voted for is another entirely.
Britain participated in an illegal war with mass civilian casualties not too long ago, that one even had reasonably high levels of popular support at the time, should sports have been booting out British participants in blanket fashion back in the oughts?
Should sports have done something when country X was involved in an illegal war? Yes.
It is of course extremely inconsistent.
Very inconsistent yes.
I follow new Edinburgh resident Shannon Galpin and her struggles to get Afghan athletes to safety. She now finds that this war now means that anyone from there must have a job now as Ukrainians are fast tracked into EU. They were just about to let a group of 80 in but systems are overloaded by this latest horrible conflict. Modest numbers from Afghanistan versus over a million from Ukraine.
Getting any refugee to UK is another thing of course. Biden didn't mention Afghanistan at all in his union speech. The west just moves on....
We don't need a Ukraine / Russia thread or do we...? (I'm not that keen but accept it will be another long term theme to add to Climate Change, Covid, Brexit, Indy) . Bans affect sports and arts but glad to see Russian classical composers haven't been taken off Radio 3 playlists...
Sports are doing something, they're banning Russian teams. They should have banned British teams, yes. As in, ones playing under the flag of their country or in home leagues from international fixtures. The question was should every sportsperson in the world with a British passport have had their career shredded, which I asked on the apparently erroneous assumption that the suggestion was absurd enough to illustrate why doing that to any sportsperson with a Russian passport now is just lashing out.
