I see the Transport Minister has just cut the ribbon on a new 500m long dual carriageway in Aberdeen.

    Total cost £49.5m!

That is £9,900,000 per hundred metres! £99 per millimetre!

There is also the small matter, conveniently ignored in the Transport Scotland press release but reported by the BBC, that:

Hundreds of council flats in the Logie area were demolished to make way for the new road.

Think of all that effort expended by cycle campaigners on road space reallocation, asking for a few parking spaces to be moved. Yet the Scottish Government is happy to literally demolish hundreds of homes to shave a few minutes from peak time commuter trips by car.

By their actions shall you know them.

‘New’ transport minister should have been too embarrassed to attend…

Could have opened it without ceremony.

    £50m on 500 metres of inner-city dual-carriageway.

It's not going to help with

    #TrafficReduction target.

I wonder how much has been spent on walking, cycling & bus infrastructure in #Aberdeen while this road has been being built? It certainly won't be as much as this.

And the new road was reported on BBC Radio Scotland at lunchtime in entirely positive terms - great news for drivers! - no thought given to environmental considerations at all, and the demolition of the flats was just mentioned in passing, not questioned at all. Terrible, lazy journalism.

Remind me again why Winchburgh doesn't yet have a train station?

If one didn't laugh. This sort of stuff really is depressing.
