Bikepacking wheels

    What wheels are people using for bikepacking these days? I’ve got a titanium gravel bike with some Enve 45s and a 29mm tyre for road use which will take a fair amount of allroad use too. Looking for something that’ll run a 35-40mm tyre, mainly on road and the NCN for some bikepacking. Need reliability so if I’m far from people I can still get home even if I hit a rock hard and the ability to carry the extra weight of camping kit. May also look to a front dynamo at some point as the thru axle fork has internal wiring.

    Any suggestions for wheels/tyres? Price isn’t so much an issue and keen to maintain quality and speed

    I use Hunt 4 seasons (not carbon). They've taken a few nicks but have done me proud over general life and a few trips for three or four years and thousands of km. Think they do a dynamo hub too.

    I hear that if you're running tubeless you can now get foam inserts to protect wheels from rim knocks even mor, but I've never been able/got round to buying any.

    The alloy Hunt 4 seasons are bomb proof. I crashed a few years back on them and there's massive dent on the front rim but still hold the tubeless tyre on with no issues. Loud rear hub too, so you don't need a bell to warn folk you are approaching. I'm going to be using them for a mini bike packing trip in September. For tyres I have Panaracer gravel king sk 32, great for most surfaces, not good for sticky mud or wild rocky terrane mind.

    I've got Mavic X319's on my CDF which has been on a few bike packing trips. Not terribly sexy but dependable rims not tubless ready if that is a consideration.

    May or may not be an issue here -

    I’ve recently become aware that there are ‘rim brake rims’ and ‘disc brake rims’.

    I can understand that there are different forces in operation, but a quick google doesn’t find any explanation OR indication of how the rims differ.

    (I know there are rims without sidewalls, but this seems to be an extra consideration.)
