Nice! Do you know the geological reason for all those lakes?

In Newfoundland they’re all called ponds. Very shallow and connected with gullies and streams.

    Glaciation (sp?).

Likewise the deep bays on the coast.

Wow - what a report! It has everything - loons, bogs and even a Dildo.

(Honestly - I'm doing you all a service here. Someone had to mention it).

Last week we saw The tempest, first performed in 1611, in a community founded in 1610. No surprise at all that place names have a Shakespearean vintage.

I saw your picture of the canal (because it's no longer a track bed) on twitter. I hadn't realised you'd gone through it with bikes, nor that it was so deep. I thought I was harsh when I took my kids along a path which was overgrown with nettles.

@Morningsider. You have indeed saved us from having to remain politely British and pretend the pond didn't have that name.

Also excellent brewery with an excellent location: http://dildobrewingco.com/

Name was given by fishermen, because of the shape of the promontory that protects the harbour.

    What were these fishermen thinking?!

Yes - name did seem a bit risqué. :-)

Sub aqua cycling is alive in NF - a great effort against the odds. Well done.

You guys are a bit sensitive?

Scilly Cove just round the bay did rename itself Winterton (talk to miniSRD about the wooden boat museum there), but in general Newfoundland prefers to turn risqué place names into marketing opportunities.

Thanks LB. It was quite an adventure. Haven’t been able to find anyone else who has cycled any of these tracks. Looking forward to doing more.

    LOL.
Better than being called Dull and Boring.

It looked like a grand adventure, SRD.
