We've been thinking it would be cool to give the kids a taste of wild camping up in the Pentlands. I don't want to go e.g. to the banks of Harlaw to mix with the gangs of people there. Does anybody have inspiration for spots to pitch up that are more secluded, but still feasible for kids to access?

Do you know the gravel road at Buteland? It is the extension of the tarmacadam road. you climb over the stile and follow the track. It is good for a while then becomes made of rubble but perfectly passable. E.g. for hankchieflets. Just as this road peters out before the plantation take a right along the land rover track and it runs to the Pumping Station. Has flat bits out of the wind but there is a sound of rushing water at times. No access to the actual station.

    So safe.

Basically sits above the Thrashiedean Burn in the Lee of East Cairn. Approx two hours cycling from your house.

Probably, also going up Listonshiels there would be a pitch near the crest or on other side on way down to Carlops. Midges are bad if no breeze.

Alternatively Thriepmuir is often quieter than Harlaw. as is Black Springs.

This weekend I am hoping to finally return t(e enormous str8mmer, sorry for delay.
