The Union Canal has a neat USP as a route to cycle along. Its a contour canal, sneaking around the hills & with massive aqueducts to jump a few rivers to avoid having any locks, & thus make boat movements so much faster (especially for freight)
It could also have a birthday bike ride if there is the momentum to deliver this - any contacts with Scottish Canals to see how this might fit with their plans?
Its also the bicentenary of the Caledonian Canal - a bit further & perhaps we need to lean on West Coast Railway/Scotrail for a train to Banavie, and then the logistics of getting back from Inverness - (919 coaches back to Fort Bill or coaches/trains down A9 HML? - with new 6-bike HST's)
PM thoughts?
