The Bike Station is running the A Better Way to Work Challenge in February - a fun, free competition to encourage employees in Edinburgh to try a different, more sustainable way of travelling to work.

Organisations and their departments will compete from Monday 7 to Sunday 27 February 2011 to see who has the healthiest and greenest workforce. Any form of sustainable travel to and from work can be logged – whether by foot, bike, bus or train, car sharing or using the City Car Club – basically anything other than driving alone.

There are lots of fantastic team and individual prizes on offer - hot air ballooning, spa days, wine tasting and much more!

The Challenge is based on participation (not miles), so organisations need to encourage as many employees as possible to take part to win. Individuals register and log their trips to and from work online: the more trips logged, the bigger and better the prizes that can be won.

For details and to register to take part visit http://www.abetterwaytoworkchallenge.org/

I looked at this about 2 weeks ago when it was launched, and then realised there's not a cornetto's hope in Hull of my employer signing up for it... Shame really, it looked like fun.

Someone phoned me from TBS today to ask if I'd coordinate it for my employer this year. I had to say no. :-(

Remember - the Challenge is on until the 27th February and it's still not too late to log your trips!

I checked at my work (forgot I had one) and everyone either walks, bikes or gets the bus!

I've just logged my 20th trip on the challenge.

Please Mr Government, can I have a VED rebate on my 35 kgCO2 that I've avoided by riding my bike instead of driving?

Good point Arrelcat, maybe I should calculate my annual saving and send them an invoice(!) I would even adopt the tax office style and "offer the opportunity" to pay it as a lump sum...

ruggtomcat - If you get everyone to log their trips your workplace would be in with a good chance of winning!
