Meanwhile Ford are discontinuing the popular and economical small* car, the Fiesta, claiming that "drivers opt for SUVs"
The reality of course is that manufacturers have aggressively pushed and marketed SUVs as they are more profitable. They are spending up to £2000 of the vehicle ticket price on advertising to actually sell that highly polluting and dangerous vehicle to unsuspecting buyers
*The Fiesta is now as large the original Focus and as large as a Ford Granada, so hardly a small car anymore
When car manufacturers blame consumer demand for the wholesale switch to SUVs, they forget to mention how hard they have worked to create this demand.
The Ford Fiesta is the *most popular car ever*, but less profitable per unit than SUVs. So discontinued
