This has turned into quite the rat-run while Mayfield Road is closed Northbound due to the University's epic building project.

Some time back someone (contractors presumably) put a bunch of those awful plastic sleeping policemen on Blackbarony and Ross Road in an attempt to slow the drivists down. For some reason they left Hallhead Road without them. Naturally the drivists all went there instead, which is annoying as it is on my commute route.

This oversight is now being corrected. Quite why they:

    a) couldn't simply turn that whole area into a temporary LTN for the duration of the works with a couple of modal filters so the rat runners are forced onto the A701 where they should be in the first place or

    b) install a more appropriate bolt-down traffic calming measure (e.g. https://www.marshalls.co.uk/commercial/product/rubber-speed-cushions instead of https://www.simplysafetygroup.co.uk/speed-bump-complete-kit-10mph)

    escapes me.

On plus side I can now get what the cool kids may know as "radical air" when heading downhill. I suspect my future will include wheel trueing

The entrance after the closure was closed for a while but re-opened (I think with an ineffectual LOCAL ACCESS ONLY sign). I'm not sure why - local rage is a possibility but seems unlikely given the impact of rat-runners, so I wonder about refuse collection practicalities. I note on Streetview that there seems to be a work compound there though - it would be incredible if the sole reason it can't be closed is the requirement of access to the worksite that's caused it all!

Interesting. I come in from the Esslemont Road end of Gordon Terrace so I never saw the road closure by the work site (short term though it was).

    Here's the closure notice:

    https://www.edinburgh.gov.uk/downloads/file/30977/temp-22-88

    Valid until April.

Can't (via Google at least) find out what exactly happened with that.
