The new uphill cycleway on Holyrood Road is really interesting. They’re using new stick down kerbs to create it which is far cheaper/quicker than things like CCWEL but still looks surprisingly good.

    No complaints about the width!

Nice! I did not know this was planned. Looking forward to checking it out.

I cycle that road surprisingly often.

Wouldn’t it be nice if it went up the Pleasance? Not to mention the Cowgate too.

Saw the guys working on this a few days ago. The kerbs were being stuck down to the new road surface using a watering can full of tar! It actually looks reasonably good, but I wonder whether it would have been even quicker, cheaper and possibly more secure to use the system installed in Valleyfield Street and Glengyle Terrace, which are simply bolted into the road.

Kind of glad no buses call at the stops on the route - as the bus stop bypass "solution" looks kind of half assed. Simply small zebra crossings over the cycle lane in front of the existing stops. I imagine we may hear more about this...

same process for London Road round 2 (although there were temporary SFP bollards up in sections). Would be intrigued to see the designs, but don't think they have to be published for these sorts of works?

    London Road -

    Meadowbank, Jock’s Lodge?

No doubt they’ll be working out how to join in with the Powderhall Railwaypath…

I wonder what Spokes "agreed" to?

From the article, it doesn't sound hopeful that there'll ever be a proper cycling connection between the shared-use path at the Meadowbank shopping centre roundabout and Lower London Rd (and hence on to Holyrood park)

Same at the other end (Wishaw Tce -> Lower London Rd)

The road and pavement improvements on Holyrood Road are complete. We've resurfaced the road, added a cycle track, and improved the Canongate crossing making it easier for anyone with mobility difficulties. These changes will make the area better for walking wheeling & cycling

Quite concerned by the London Road ones. It looks like there's banks of parking between the cycle lanes and merging in and out of the cycle lanes could be really dangerous. But it's hard to tell at this point what the final form will be.

I can't believe they consider the Holyrood Rd lanes to be permanent - it's clear the materials are only semi-permanent and will have to be reworked in a decade's time, at great expense...

The existing pavements here are all machine laid, and thus the flexible pavement material (tarmac) will be much smoother than any hand laid stuff

Keep reminding the Council that you can get machine laid* pavements down to 1.2m wide (between tram rails) & they should damn well specify this in any path building contracts?

    * Usually a Bittelli baby paviour machine

Doesn't the protected lane still give up at that point?

It gives up at Viewcraig Gardens, which is the junction at the blue building in the background.

@neddie and @Frenchy - you are both right! The lane does extend to Viewcraig Gardens, but there is a gap in the segregation that starts at the point in chdot's photo and extends past the pedestrian crossing.
