I've often been struck by the general pointlessness of this cycle path. I always approach a piece of infrastructure with the mindset of "do I have to think how to use this?" and "is it going to dump me somewhere unhelpful?" and "can I actually make these turns?" Picardy Place for example fails all three of these questions.

You might emerge from Inch Park on the unsigned shared(?) footway, wanting to get to Old Dalkeith Road for riding into town. You reach the Toucan crossing at the roundabout. The path then leads you round to another Toucan, and thence the stump of the original Lady Road.

From here you can either ride up Lady Road to be dumped at the small roundabout with no infrastructure to help you reach Esslemont Road and KB, or with our original destination in mind, you're hemmed in on the narrow footway under the bridge in order to reach Old Dalkeith Rd whereupon you have no dropped kerb to rejoin the on-street cycle lane towards town.

    Re-opening

The works are expected to take up to 10 weeks, resulting in the road re-opening by Friday 10 May. The team will endeavour to improve on this date due to the recognised importance of this route, however it is vital that a well-engineered solution is constructed safely.

I enjoyed the CHAOS this morning.

Seems the council did announce this beforehand but didn't put up any signs on the approaches until today. Certainly nothing was there yesterday.

The pavement from Dalkeith Road cemetery to Lady Road is still open so you can wheel a bike through. For some reason the workies blocked the drop kerb at the pedestrian crossing to the island in the Pfeffermill Road direction (but not the undropped kerbs next to it) so not great if you are mobility impaired.

When I passed Dalkeith Road was still cyclable right up to the culvert closure but the Big Planing Machine was already advancing under the Lady Road bridge so I expect it will all be getting planed back today.

"One man stated the road works were having ‘a huge impact’ at the shopping centre and said drivers were using the shopping centre ‘as an alternative route both ways’"

So, drivers are using the shopping centre as a rat-run, amazing. Drivers ruining everything as usual.

Peak CagerBrain(TM). The Sharpedale Loan entrance only let's you go back to Lady Road anyway.

Does explain the CHAOS yesterday morning though, lol. Very quiet today, by contrast. Even so Two muppets did follow me down to the closure in their cars, thinking I knew something they didn't. Technically I suppose this is true, I knew I could dismount and walk...tee hee.
