Macho or not, I was glad of the full mudguards this morning going through the 6 inches of water at Edin Park Station underpass.

I feel sorry for less well endowed bikes at that point !

"6 inches of water at Edin Park Station underpass"

Think bailing this out - on a daily basis - should be a condition of getting a bonus for leaving tie.

That might get it sorted quicker...

I've has a Specialized Globe Vienna 4 (with nexus 8 hub, I think) for 2 1/2 years and I'm more than delighted with it. Never had a single problem with it... I'm surprised that the hub bikes didn't take off more: at the time, there used to be 3 or 4 models with hubs in the Co-op, but I'm not even sure they have some now...

@Kaputnik "What's not macho about mudguards?"

Indeed, I always think a street bike with no mudguards looks like a bit of a fair weather primadonna, and when I sometimes see them used in the rain/mud, that the riders all seem to look like they need a good wash and/or have suffered a spectacular toilet based accident!

Mudguards are the new macho ;-))

I semi-regularly see a white slick-tyred hard-tail MTB on my commute with a hub gear. It has a "lefty" fork (i.e. only one arm) so I assume it's a Cannondale that the owner has seen fit to remove the stickers from. It certainly is trying to look macho.

"I have spotted two Cannondale bad boys (my favorite macho urban bike) with Alfine hubs now. "

One of the teachers at the primary school I work in has a Badboy Fatty. Aside from her taste in bikes, she's not what I'd describe as macho.
