If you ride that way you will probably have noticed that Polwarth Terrace / Grove has been completely shut for about 2 weeks now outside the church / junction with Harrison Road.

It caught me out the first time at night in the dark and drizzle when I went through the green light only to be confronted with the apparition of a 6 foot metal security fence (no reflectives or the like) across both lanes of the carriageway. Managed to steer a course for the pavement and bump up onto it as I rang the engine room for full astern. Perhaps it's signed further back and I missed them, but I had only turned on at the top of Ashley Terrace.

Only the pavement outside the church is open and there's no space to squeeze along the gutter. Again I forgot about it and went this way this morning and had to get off bike, push along pavement then try and work out a way to get back onto the road through the traffic using the remaining three arms of the junction.

Does anyone know why it's closed and/or for how long? All I can make out is that it's being used to store a lot of wooden frames for the building redevelopment in the former hotel opposite the Church.

Kaputnik - Polwarth Terrace is due to be closed until 13 February for "utiity connections". Certainly caught me by surprise a few nights ago - no idea why they need such a huge compound or complete road closure, most utility connections can be done with partial closures over the space of a day or two.

They're putting some sort of mains right across the street. Probably to do with the redevelopment of the land across from the church which was a hotel?

There are orange cones in front of the barriers....

I've been through a few times and just gone along the pavement without any trouble, but then I'm not going that fast :)

LB 10 and 27 are diverted up Ettrick and down Colinton Rd. It's signposted at Colinton Rd circle, and along Polwarth terrace, don't know about elsewhere.

For contractors to park? Cynic? Moi?

I was quoted in the bastion of journalistic integrity, the Evening News, after sending them a picture of a raft of tram contractor cars parked within a fenced off area on Charlotte Square. Parking had been suspended for this fenced off area to exist. And it was being used for free parking and nought else....

A spokesman for the contractor said something like, people working for us have to park somewhere. Well. Yes. Like anyone else who drives in. Or maybe, just maybe, the workers on a major public transport project could be encouraged to support that public transport?

Perhaps they will resurface it whilst they're at it! ...And if we are really lucky this might extend to Gilmour Place, the road surface is shocking to say the least.
