Any interest ? Top of MMW 0830am Canopy Coffee Shoppe cost Ed Uni £140m the same as the cuts they are making. We aren’t protesting just drinking coffee and shouting Irn Bru

What you don't understand, gembo, is that the Futures Institute is an investment whereas staff are simply costs that drain the university's coffers.

@SRD how did I miss that? Could it be because I am not a total W@nk£r?
Chinese students taught by robots is The Future.

A paramount exemplification of this vision of the future university is of course, as its name indicates, the lavish Edinburgh Futures Institute, whose budgeted capital expenditure of £140m (Annual Report and Accounts, 2021) had to be supplemented. This additional expenditure is noted in the Court minutes from April 2023, but the amount of deviation from the original planned cost has not been disclosed. As noted in a previous post, the total cost is said to be £250m. The expectation for such massive expenditure is that, as noted in the same Court minutes: ‘Significant returns to the University were expected even with increased levels of investment, given the high-value activity that EFI would facilitate.’

They give me Edin Uni discount, if I buy after Mcairney

Hey, gembo, that's pushing Rule 2 a bit...
Posted 3 months ago # -
@fimm It wasnt intentional but I agree. I should be banned

“I should be banned.”
Can be arranged
Should I start a poll?

No one is above the law.
Or as popular as they might think?I was only telling my story of a youth worker down Muirhouse 30 years back who truly believed he was one of the people. But neglected over time to clean the rubbish the people flung into the front porch of his project. He came from his home in Leith one Mondaymorning only to find the people had set light to the rubbish. I am not saying it was deliberate but sadly no more project

I mean, I don't have a problem with the language, it just made me blink in the context if this forum because rule 2 is normally well observed!

“it just made me blink in the context if this forum because rule 2 is normally well observed!“
Ah good point
There have been occasions (rare, because, as you say - “rule 2 is normally well observed!“), when I have removed ‘words’.
This time I must have decided gembo was using Rule 2a -
‘In some circumstances, use of characters instead of letters avoids Rule 2 sanctions’
Perhaps Rule 2a should be rescinded?

P.s.
Maybe it was g’s suggestion that wasn’t a ‘total anchor’ undermined his assertion…

P.p.s.
I maintain the above doesn’t violate Rule 1
Because

I will be there at 830am tomorrow - any takers?

Can't make this one - I'll be heading to the beer/music/food extravaganza that is Fynefest, at the Fyne Ales brewery.

@gembo brought the style with his Shand, I brought the mass-produced generic carbon, @neddie brought the sensible e-bike and @jdanielp arrived on Shanks' pony.
I was first there and made my standard CanoPY order of a capuccino and a pain au chocolat. I was demoing the new Wahoo Element Ace for my LBS and decided it best to take it off with the procession of Heriot kids walking past. In the 30 seconds that I left my pastry unattended a seagull had swooped down and grabbed it. Decided it was a sign from above that maybe I should skip the 2nd breakfast.

And of course @urcaidh showed up around 9ish

Seagulls are filthy Fokkers. THe gathered Jury decided I hadnt infringed rule2. However as penance the replacement drive train on the Shand Slinkymalinky cost was eye watering. Mainly due to the specific big ring [that came in random assortment from Merlin] Hannah also declared the Unnameable IWRATS had incorrectly clamped the gear cable during construction.

Yep that big chainring and cassette looked well-done. 105 is great stuff though, the new 105 di2 is particularly nice if a touch on the heavy side at 3kg all-in

@mcairney Do not confuse an eccentric bottom bracket and belt drive with a motor ;-)
Posted 3 months ago # -
It was actually the neatly integrated lights, along with the belt drive that made me think it was an e-bike, apologies!

Had to look up Shanks' pony...
