Attempts to ban floating bus stops

As part of the Bus Services Bill going through Westminster just now, some bad-faith* actors have snuck in an amendment which would effectively ban the construction of floating bus stops in England.

This would also end cycling as a mode of transport in England for most people, as most people will not use a bike lane that dumps you back in the main road at every bus stop.

Although this only affects England (for now), it is important because it may well eventually be copied in Scotland, and it will also rule out cycling holidays (and business trips) in England when you visit.

Mark Philpotts (the Ranty Highwayman) has written a submission about it here:

I'm not sure what we can do about it here, but I'm sure it would be worth an email to your MP

bakky and I have written to our MPs, to ask that they try to influence the parliamentary committee into following Mark Philpotts recommendations:

And also asking that political parties follow evidence-led policymaking on sustainable transport.

Anyone else going to write in?

Going to headline it in Monday's issue also (well, second headline item - the first being that it's the hundredth consecutive issue!)

Thank you. I have now also written to my MP (Christine Jardine) to ask her to do whatever she can to help.
