Princes street in Edinburgh has been closed west of the mound following a road traffic collision.
Shortly after 6pm this evening, Sunday, 13th July emergency services were called to the incident and have taped off the scene in order for investigation work from Road Policing officers to take place.
An eye witness to the incident reports seeing a cyclist being struck by a tour bus, although official sources have not yet confirmed this.
Images from the scene show a bigbus tour company bus at the centre of the taped area near to road policing officers standing near to bikes.
The condition of the casualty is not yet known.

was trying to figure out what happened last night.

Edinburg trams claimed "medical emergency at tram stop". but it was clearly more than someone having a medical incident given how long the road was closed.

    really grim.

According to Reddit, in a post that I can no longer find (likely removed due to publishing details and the fact that the moderators over there are pretty wild), from the comments I could see - I will not get into the same level of detail, but it seemed someone was struck by an open top bus but may have intended to be hit by it, and that they were seriously injured.

I've been looking into cycle safety on Princes Street and recently went through some of the STATS19 cycle crash data for Princes Street. Bus collisions were quite rare - many more taxis and tram rail incidents.

It would be good to know what went on here. E.g. was the cyclist turning onto Frederick Street?
