Apparently the Wester Hailes Swans (6 cygnets) are attempting to chase the Viewforth Swans (3 cygnets) away. The strategy is apparently to try and kill the cygnets.

Mr SRD met a swan community police officer last night who was trying to discourage people from feeding them in hopes they would leave.

    "swan community police officer"

You can't drop phrases like this in without explanation. Or photos.

I have observed the wester hailes family of swans down almost at boroughmuir most days this week and indeed the SCPO trying to encourage the bigger family back out west

I cycled along the canal for the first time in a little over two weeks this morning. The family of three were intact, quite close to Biketrax. The recently re-opened stretch of towpath between there and the lift bridge is nice and wide and smooth, for now at least, and how it will react to frost and ice remains to be seen. I don't remember spotting the large swan family at all as I rode west as far as Hermiston House Road to go to Heriot-Watt.

The family of three were very obvious this morning, almost entirely blocking the towpath near Boroughmuir High School.

I did spot the large family on the way home yesterday and on the way to work this morning, both times at Wester Hailes, reassuringly.
