I did ask about this route before sorry, cant find the relevant thread.

The most direct route would be through RBS at Gogarburn I think ??

But there was some chat on here about a mystery private bridge over the railway at South Gyle Shopping Centre?? Which I fancied.

    You mean near Edinburgh Gateway?

Well it is near Edinburgh Gateway yes. Or South Gyle Train Station if it is Train Stations we are talking. Turn house would be the broad geographical area or specifically AC Land Airport Runway is another landmark. Maybury Casino, Cammo Tower etc.

There's no secret bridge in that area that I'm aware of. Between South Gyle station and Turnhouse road there is
    1) South Gyle Station bridge - Open to all but not very useful for your route.
    2) The A8 - this is the bridge you are most likely to use (It will have higher parapets installed as part of the line electrification project.)
    3) Edinburgh Gateway - Pedestrian bridge within the station. This should be opened up as part of the Summix/Saica pack factory redevelopment but possibly only for train/tram ticket holders.
    4) Renwicks* - This is the old stone bridge located at grid reference NT170731. It was fenced off early in the house building process but has been accessible from the track at the back of Edinburgh Gateway for some time again.
    5) Turnhouse Road - This isn't much use unless you are going to the Airport back gate or riding round to Cammo via the bridge on Lenny Muir.

So to answer your question currently you would need to access Maybury Primary School using the A8 crossing. From Balerno I would go down Gogar Station Road then into the RBS campus and over the A8 on their bridge. Follow the shared use path along the side of the A8 past Edinburgh Gateway and round onto Turnhouse Road.

    * I'll post a longer update about Renwicks and it's replacement on another thread.

Thanks Oh Mighty and Illustriouus Leader. How did you know I also wanted to stop at Patina to buy the Heidie a croissant? On your map at the north end of The Gyle Shopping Centre there is a blue line RR - seems to go to the Magic PPrivate Footbridge over the railway? Shall be an adventure. @ACSiimpson is this what you were saying.

Hilariously at the other end of town I just finally worked out the best route to Porty High. This has taken me 25 years, old site and new.

It seems I spent so long typing my last post that I missed the leader's map.

If you follow the blue line it will take you under the A8 to Gateway and then up a ramp to the cycle path along the A8.

The cyclestreets route looks good as far as the Gyle but may not be entirely surfaced. I would cross SG Broadway at the tram stop and then head for the underpass either through the car park or round the edge of the Gyle. There is some unpleasant road crossings on the marked route.

The path to (and across) Renwicks appears on the map but it correctly wont route you over it. The track is rough and over overgrown but an oasis of quiet in the area.

IThanks AC - I am now slightly more confused. I imagine it will become clearer as I. Do it.ah but now I have read the Renwicks post and even scrolled back in this thread

So I am back on the two routes. Both go down Gogar Station. One goes right along the gravel and under the bypass and out at Patina’s cafe where the head teacher gets the croissant but leaves me still crossing the railway

The other is simpler stay on Gogar Station, Cross the railway and then into RBS and cross the A8 But no Croissant

Does anyone know if the proposed modal filter on Cammo Rd (TRO/22/13) is currently in place?

No, it has been suspended while the Craig's/Maybury road junction work is underway.
