Husband of fimm (Karl) posted the following on Facebook on 28th:

    Dear Friends,

My beloved wife Fiona passed away on Christmas day morning after a 10 month battle with cancer. Fiona spent her last days at St Columba’s hospice in Edinburgh and died with her family around her.

I want to thank everyone who has already sent us messages of support and will post news of funeral arrangements when I have them. xx

    A great contributor to CCE

    A subtle campaigner by example - multi-mode, multi-bike, multi-season commuter

Demo participant and PoP Feeder Ride co-organiser

Oh no, that is awful. :(

fimm was also an active member of the Women's Cycle Forum and will be missed.

How terrible and sad she would always give me a cheery wave, I shall miss her.

She was a constant contributor to so many positive things about cycling.

Thoughts go out to Karl, family and friends. Sad news that no-one here expected.

I only knew her from contributions here, which were always good. I am very sorry to hear this.

Oh no, that's really sad to hear. Although I didn't know her well our paths crossed a few times and she always came across as a great person.

Just to say that I checked with Karl before posting the following. Please PM me for webcast details if required.

The celebration of Fiona's life will be on January 23rd, 2026 at 11 am at the East Lothian Crematorium. Fiona enjoyed bright colours. To honour that we’d like people to wear something bright and colourful on the day.

For donations to remember how Fiona lived, Fiona’s wish is that people give to Mountaineering Scotland’s ‘It’s up to Us’ Campaign: https://www.mountaineering.scot/its-up-to-us-path-campaign

    @jdanielp

    Thanks

Hope Karl is aware of this thread, particularly the effect she managed to have on people who may never even have met her

    Crematorium only opened recently

    Close to Musselburgh Station

Very sad news, I only met fimm once or twice, but always read her comments both here and on yacf, as she was always worth reading. Condolences to Karl, her family and friends

Sorry to hear this sad news :(
I think I only met her once or twice but she was a regular poster and taken far too young. My thoughts with her family at this sad time.

So sorry to hear this, thoughts with the family.

I passed fimm a few times on the bike, and she always had a smile and a wave

Didn't know whether to post or not as I didn't really know fimm, but I was saddened to read this a few days ago. Thoughts are with family and friends, loss is difficult at any time but it's especially cruel at Xmas when everyone else seems full of joy.

We chatted about routes in Livingston occasionaly here, she was always very nice, also passed her from time to time heading to Haymarket with her Brompton as I was heading to work.

“Didn't know whether to post or not as I didn't really know fimm“

    No need to feel hesitant

Clear that some people here who never actually met, appreciated her contributions and ‘presence’ and feel the loss

Like others I only met her once or twice, but was very saddened to hear this.

A colleague, who knew her through mountaineering and didn't know I knew her at all, mentioned that a friend of his had very sadly died at Christmas. It's a very small world sometimes, and very clear that she made it much better for people around her.

I explained to Karl that I knew fimm from CCE, but at some point years ago had become aware that my girlfriend also knew her from mountaineering, and he made a similar observation about it being a small world sometimes, I think in particular within Edinburgh!

This is such sad news. I saw fimm in October when she and Karl came to the Strathpuffer Towpath Talks. We chatted about commuting to Livingston and she said how she was still taking the long commute home some days during summer. I had absolutely no idea.

Had intended to attend the funeral but have been unwell. Hope there was a good CCE presence.

Sure we all thought of her @SRD

Last week in January just went by. Hope to catch up at PY and that you're feeling better by then.

I was unwell as well so I ended up just watching the webcast. It seemed like a fitting tribute, and the fact that cycle activism was only mentioned quite briefly in the eulogy spoke to how wide a variety of interests and involvement fimm had with the things that mattered to her. I was told that it was standing room only.
