My goodness, I've never known it to be so icy. Be careful out there, lots of roads untreated and many folk acting like NPCs and not paying attention.

Yep. Did not cycle today.
I think even if they had gritted, it would've all been washed away by the rain last night.
Lady getting on bus was both thanking the driver profusely for waiting and grumbling loudly about how she'd "nearly broken her neck" falling on Princes St and there was "no grit anywhere"

A rider came off on the ice on this morning's Dawn Patrol, near Leith

Was out for a brief trip on my beefy tyred MTB there. Stuck to bus routes only, as they are the best gritted roads, and there was still lots of ice towards the edges of the carriageway. Pavements pretty lethal - especially the Council's beloved granite paviours.
On balance, probably best to give it a miss today unless you have spiked tyres.

I was going to ride to work today but I looked out of the window at 7am and decided not to travel. The streets here in Midlothian were so icy you could have skated on them. I daresay the trunk roads that comprise most of my commute would have been gritted already but I wasn't prepared to find out and risk falling off my Elephant Bike (spiked tyres already installed) or risk crashing the torpedo and damaging it severely.
Mid-morning the gritters came to all the side streets here and the ice has more or less melted for now.
I need to commute tomorrow though so may pick the EB.
