This year there will be no 400 mile 'short' event ending in Oban. Riders set off yesterday and are all committed to the full route as executed by Bill several years ago.The

    Don't think there's a harder/more varied event?

Yes, impressive effort from the leader to make the last Dunoon ferry last night. It wasn't clear to me until then whether the Western Ferries route is fair game (well, I assume it is)

Sparkles has alas scratched, I imagine he was first for a good bit of the first 600km

@gembo for the first 100k yes, he stopped briefly in Gifford and Bastien B was 5k up the road not to be seen again by the time Sparkles got going again.

BB only rider to make the Skye ferry today - now over the BnaB and heading for Shieldaig. The chasing field reforming in Mallaig and will race it out for 2nd?

There is talk of the weather being bad for Bastien but he is far out in the lead. Same tactics as Sparkles used last year to win by miles. The chap in second was maybe 80k behind but ran out of ferry crossings and was caught by the field kind of thing.

Very exciting to dot watch Trans Alba this year!

The route is a bit different. Glad to see they cut out the section I hated the most -- Dunbartonshire and Erskine bridge.

    Lots of Edinburgh based riders!

And it was good to see someone challenging Sparkles. BB is flying!
