Weird bike theft

    Pal of mine had his bike nicked despite having two locks and it being in a bike shed at a well to do school. (Angle grinder during school day !!). He also had an AirTag. In the bottle cage.

    The bike went from central Ed to Niddrie . Pal went for look see but saw nothing. Then Edinburgh to Glasgow. (Pal ended up in Glasgow with gendarmes but was an eight flat block so apart from Chappin on the doors nuthin, he really wanted that bike back - modest bike)
    But
    Then went tfrom Glasgow to Romania to a bike shop.

    They spotted the tag and flung it in the river.

    My question - WTAF. ? Stolen by Edinburgh based Roamanians?

    Sounds like an organised gang, there was a similar thing down in London the other year IIRC - they steal dozens of bikes at a time and then ship them all over to Europe if they're modest bikes that'll sell whole or break them down here for parts if they're fancy. Avoids any potential issues with the owner scouting ebay/gumtree etc and showing up to try and take it back.

    Maybe your pal can cajole the polis into actually bothering to investigate for once, if there's a prospect of being able to pose for the papers for taking down some organised crime.
