I've just noticed this so I have no idea if they are fully booked or not.

"Skinny Tyres have teamed up with the organisers of the epic Scottish sportive, the Etape Caledonia, IMG. We are delighted to be able to offer pre Etape Caledonia training rides on February 6th, March 20th and April 10th. These events will be single day rides, but supported with guides.  The rides will be free of charge, but must be booked through this website and places will be limited to 30 riders. Places are now open for booking."

wonder what benefit that gets you? Maybe quite good to adjust to cycling in groups of 30? On parts of the actual route? or the feeling of people zipping passed you on both sides etc.? The event route is well conceived and not hugely arduous if you have a daily commute that is long enough you are probably already at the required level of fitness. Still nice idea and free of charge so must be worth it.

I'm not sure I'd travel to Pitlochry for a 40 mile training ride but then I once drove to Ayr for a ten mile ride so who am I to talk. It looks like a good way into sportive riding.

@cyclingmollie don't get us started on Ayr again. I think you are right, the etape is a good way into spotive. The audax men and women treat it as a sprint.

A small group from thebikechain will be doing a Etape Caledonia practice ride on 25th April. If anyone else wants to join in, please let us know at the shoppe.

Well a friend and I just cycled the Etape route and it is an absolutely fantastic ride. Kind of bumpy all the way round so you never have any long horrible slogs on flat or slightly sloping roads. Only one unpleasant road for a few miles along it-if you are going to do the ride I STRONGLY recommend that you miss out the A827 stretch.

Instead of turning left along it you can turn right for a very short distance and then left along the B898. You then need to turn left and cross a bridge into Logierait and resume the route. It will add a smidgen on to the ride but it will be worth it. Unless you really like riding along a road that is far too narrow for drivers to pass but they do anyway, either whistling past missing you by inches or driving right up behind and slamming on the brakes. Then whistling past missing you by inches.

Other than that, totally awesome cycle. :-)
