I think we (myself, Ruggtomcat) were going to meet at PY about 10ish then strike out for a round-the-forth. Out via Kincardine, back via Forth.
I'll look up routes tonight and post something.
Probably nothing strenuous pace-wise. Haven't decided if I'll take the tourer or the roadbike. Will see what sort of machine RTC plans on taking.
maybe head out to winchburgh on a slow spin down the canal. Over the Bathgate Alps into Linlithgow if feeling more adventurous.
I'll keep my eye on this thread as I might well be interested - again choice of bikes...
I'd be heading down from Balerno, so likely aim to meet somewhere in the pre-Winchburgh area.
We're going to meet at 1030 at PY then either head towards Queensferry direction and cut through to Winchburgh at Craigiehall (through Kirkliston) or it may be more convenient if we head out along the Canal and you can pick us up somewhere along there?
Looking at a total distance of probably just under 60 from centre of Edinburgh. The actual loop itself is 40 miles so add on 10 miles each way to get there.
I'm going to take the tourer as the tyres are a bit more resistant to a bit of cycle path (gatorskins)

Well if you're at all likely to hit the Falkirk area in the evening (i.e. after 5!) there's free tea/coffee here and it's downhill to the train station ;-)
Unfortunately work (the curse of the drinking classes) will prevent me joining in through the day :-(

hillman imp ! Smudge said ! All Hillman imps were and always will be rolling restorations, stub axles, heaters , doughnuts and of course the never failing cyl head ! The back windows never fall out, the choke levers never come off in your hand and rust never strickes anywhere ! If you want bricks, travell through the Steins brickworks, next to the union canal for a gander at old school industrial landscape, its going soon ! Now austin A 40s,another matter, my wee brovs got 2 and a wee bit of them !
ps, dependant where your going, Queensferry to winchburgh via Duntarvie Castle,along railway road track thingy to bowling green, onto canal there works as well. Besides am sure there are some wild goosberry bushes there ?

kaputnik and anth, if you are looking for post-industrial debris you might do worse than visit the pottery beach between Musselburgh and Prestonpans. It's a stretch of coastline strewn with debris, bricks, kiln stands etc. from the works at Prestoungrange. It starts beyond the ash lagoons car park. Prestoungrange Museum is worth a visit too.
+3 for the Gothenburg. We regularly cycle along the coast for lunch at the Goth.
Now, I've never been in the Goth and it always looks fantastic!

Stub axles are designed with a tiny little bit of play, though uninformed MOT testers mark them as an observe for year after year after year (sigh) once set up properly I've never had to touch them. Heater was fine on mine, doughnuts fail if you abuse them and never check them, but have a glance at them every six months to a year and they'll never fail without warning, and as a change is a half hour job no big problems ;-)
The famous cyclinder head was borne out of driver ignorance, it was one of the first all alloy engines in a time when most were iron and people were in the habit of putting anti freeze in the system in the winter and water in the summer, do that to an alloy engine and the absence of corrosion inhibitor allows the coolant passageways/radiator to get fouled up and then if you ignore it it overheats, and of course it's never the drivers fault, must've been the car(!)
(My (standard) Sport used to run at a steady 65-70 on the motorway in midsummer and not overheat incidentally)
Never had a choke lever fall off, though rust is a pita (as always on steel cars in Scotland and the rear window seal is rubbish (how did you get it to fall out?!? The hinges are Forth Bridge solid!!
If you want to see some good Imps then Imp Eccosse is in the East Neuk 15 - 17 April this year, but i'm afraid if you want to see overheating or paving slabs under the bonnet you'll need to talk to the old guys in the pub, they'll tell you about their mates pals 100mph BSA Bantam as well if you're lucky... ;-))
(joking aside there were some terrible "friday afternoon" Imps, but their reputation was far worse than the reality)
ok,my first car was an imp, bought when 4 of us pooled our pocket money, yep we were 13 !It cost 20 quid and we drove it on our incredibly rich friends farm/estate. We actually pulled the rear window of.....so we could get in and out easier !!!! Agree with most of the other comments but its always good to have a wee dig ! I was delivering in Linwood last year and outside the last remaining bit of the factory there were, a couple of imps, a stilleto, a husky van !!! an avenger tiger, an estate and a rally preped sunbeam ! That was quite a good day, no camera though !

Nope your stab missed :-) watched stock cars but never raced them, work for a large organisation but we don't do retail...

Interesting selection of cars, 90% certain it would be an Imp club run, but I can't remember who was out there last year and when. Was it a Sunbeam Imp or another model? There are a couple of lovely copy works Imps I know of and one genuine one(ink blue with white side stripe)

First metric tonne on a 'bent! My knee is a little sore but otherwise it was fine, much more comfortable than the DF and no pain! Faded quite a bit toward the end but K-nik was a proper gentleman and we got back in time for tea!
No cake for me but a HUGE steak pie in Grangemouth (what a weird place). Rest day tomorrow I think. Its worth a write up by itself, but I have better things to do just now, like die. Definitely a two-cuppa recovery!
Yeah will write up tomorrow I think. Lots of grumbling to be done about "Route 76". Clearly a lot of it is aspirational and was put in by sustrans flying over in a helicopter with googlemaps and saying "let's send them that way, looks good from up here".
