Any advice out there for a random household problem? One element on our gas cooker just started sparking - like the starter button is being pushed over and over..can't get it to stop, nor can I get the button off (not sure that would help anyway).

No advice on the matter but ours did intermittently that a couple of weeks back. After checking that it wasn't because gas was sneaking out of the oven bit we just ignored it and it stopped later that evening.

This is def. electrics - it stops when circuit is off, but it is on the same circuit as fridge so can't leave it off...

Ah. Ours carried on even when the oven was electrically isolated. I suspected grunge in the ignition button due to the former owner never cleaning it properly.

If the gas is off it won't hurt to let it spark until it can be fixed. Alternatively unplug the cooker and light it with a match / lighter... The piz on my parents cooker hasn't worked since before I left home and they haven't starved yet.

It eventually stopped, which was a relief. Had fixed before with WD40, but no go this time. Am relearning skill of lighting with match - haven't done that since we lived in Cairo!
