Edinburgh's 'green' taxi plan hailed by Kenny MacAskill

No, it's not for electric or solar-powered taxis, it's a carbon offset plan to pay some chinese coal miners to capture the methane coming out of their mine.

    "carbon offset plan"

    Haven't they been discredited?

Quite probably - but Kenny Mackaskill can now sleep easier and with a clearer conscience that all his very neccessary taxi journeys (Edinburgh to Musselburgh, that's, like, a LONG way!) are now emitting nothing but flowers, children playing, fresh air and frolicking lambs.

Quite how paying subsidies that will benefit coal mining counts as carbon reduction I don't know...

a much more competent debunking of this than I managedhere.

Two essential points being capturing CH4 does not reduce CO2 emmissions and when you then burn the captured CH4 you in fact create CO2 - so in effect you're subsidising increased carbon dioxide emissions!
