You've probably seen, Belleville Rendez-Vous, directed by Sylvain Chomet. It's a delightful fantasy suitable for children and adults created by 'old fashioned' 2D animation.

You may not know that his next film, The Illusionist, has been in production in Edinburgh for the past four years. It's set in Edinburgh and the Western Isles (hence the picture above of the ferry to Mull).

Given the period and past film perhaps there will be bicycles. Producer Bob Last (IMDB profile)has an interest in bikes. Many years ago a newspaper asked him about his 'object of desire' - answer "Dawes Galaxy".

Even if it has no bicycles in it I would go and see it and am looking forward to it's release. Bob Last has been promoting Scottish bands for years with his record label Fast Product so it is good to see that he has branched out but still in Edinburgh and promoting Scotland in the arts, fabulous.

Aye, I remember the news story that he was setting up a studio in Edinburgh, but then it all went quiet and I wasn't sure if I'd imagined it or he'd changed his mind. I'll be looking forward to the new film, that's for sure...

Just read the Herald article - looks promising. Nice interpretation of Jenners when you click through the images at the top of the page. I hope he reimagines Edinburgh like he did New York in Belleville Rendezvous.

The Illusionist is an amazing film, a bittersweet ending though...

Right at the end after the credits there is a laugh?
