ONE of the Capital's oldest buildings is to be overhauled to create a centre dedicated to a great Scottish thinker.

The Sir Patrick Geddes Centre will be created in a £5 million restoration of Riddle's Court – hidden behind an archway on the Lawnmarket section of the Royal Mile and the site of Sir Patrick's summer schools.

The building, which dates to the 1590s, has been under the shadow of a possible sell-off by the city council and it's condition has deteriorated. It will be become a major teaching and learning centre for the city.

Funding permitting, the building repair and construction works will start on site in Spring/Summer 2015 with The Patrick Geddes Centre opening in 2017

Good bike parking here - railings always well used(!) Also doubled as a polling station. Also has been Diverse Attractions - the Fringe venue will need to find somewhere else now. We'll miss them as they were mainly smaller local groups who couldn't afford the bigger venues.

Downside - hammering etc as they spend £5 million. Part of original roof may be put back. Is a lovely building with courtyard very much in Culross style.

Mind you I'm sure they talked of doing this before and nothing happened.
