I realise I'm probably asking the wrong crowd, but does anyone know of anywhere nice to go for lunch in town which is a) baby-friendly and b) doesn't serve alcohol? I'm meeting a Muslim friend for lunch and she's very devout and can't go anywhere alcohol is available, even if I promise not to have any. And it needs to be baby-friendly too. I'm stumped.

  2. Empire Cafe doesn't have a licence (though there may be people their who BYOB). I think it's because the owners are devout Muslims. Not sure how baby friendly, but all the tables are low. Erm.

What about Hendersons or the cafe in the crypt at the West End. Perhaps the Engine Shed - I'm fairly sure they don't have alcohol.

hmmm....have an idea hendersons does sell (good) beer.

the cafe at the National Portrait gallery would have been good, but presume it is still closed.

Khushis doesn't serve alcohol, although they do let people bring it in.

Hendersons does serve alcohol - nice selection too. The Cafe in the Botanic Gardens is good (although v. pricey) - not to be confused with the restaurant. I don't think it serves booze and it is very baby/child friendly. Could try butterflies cafe (attached to Marchmont St Giles Church) - nice, fairly cheap food and great for toddlers and kids.

Tricky one this - almost everywhere worth going serves booze, even places you don't really think of like John Lewis, galleries/museums.

nile valley definitely teetotal and baby friendly in sense of they were very happy to see baby. but not easy to get buggy in the door; don't know if they have changing facilities.

khushis ditto - staff love babies, but not that convenient to get in.

I don't think the Coffee Mill on West Port does booze, and it has sufficient space for a buggy though I haven't seen any high chairs in it.
