  1. As most folk will know (I think) I got made redundant a couple of months ago, but was working out my notice (for beneficial financial reasons come the end of April). Anyway, I got offered a new job (with Scottish Widows) on Friday, which I've accepted. The trauma didn't end as initially it looked like my current lot were going to get uppity about me leaving 'early' (seriously, common sense people!) - I've given up that financial benefit for the security of a job (which also happens to be better paid and have much much better benefits).

So hopefully I can go back to being relaxed, and actually have time to do things I'd promised people. It's astonishing how waylaid you get with things hanging over you like that.

Got Citycycling issue 2 to get out of the way for this Friday, but after that I'm playing catch up on all the things I've promised various people I would do....

Anyone fancy a Peter's Yard coffee on Monday?

Congratulations. Was far too early for you to retire!

Your commute to work has shrunk then? Is that the Scottish Widows beside Commonwealth Pool?

    PY would be good yes....

  4. No, that's their IT and everything there - I'll be based on Morrison Street. Still a sliiiiiightly shorter commute.

And tbc, you're one of the people I need to get working on those promises for. Clear head to go now!

Nice one Anth - just have to resist the lure of all those lovely local bike shops of a lunch time...

If I'd worked on Morrison Street, it would've been Mev Taylor's I would've had to avoid visiting every lunchtime. And the Indian restaurant near Haymarket.

  17. Well, there were a LOT of bikes parked down in the racks underneath the building! Lockers and changing rooms as well. And someone else in the legal team cycles apparently.

Congrats :-) That's nice news to hear.

Monday sounds good for PY, if I make it I'd guess I'll be around between about 0735 and 0815(ish!)

Congratulations, you'll have to change your user name to 'Anth at New Work'!

I'm surprised at them arguing about your leaving date esp as they are making you redundant, instead of you leaving of your own accord. As for the finacial decision, redundancy? Depending on how much it was and the current job market, I'd be tempted too, to abandon any payment for a secure new job - and shame on them for trying to hold you to your intial agreed leaving date. Sounds like they want their cake and eat it - so typical of employers. Not knowing what you do, did you know Aegon were recruiting out at the Gyle, at least they were as they have lots of temps on at the mo, and a friend got a perm job there out of it. (bit late I know)

    I'll see about Monday.

Congratulations on the new job, do you get a fetching black cape to cycle to work in?

Have fun at PY, I'm in London with a butcher, some restaurateurs and a royal that morning. Thankfully no balls this time. My life is a Peter Greenaway movie at the moment.

Will be breakfasting at either look mum no hands or the rapha cc, so will be suitably cyclic though.

I will try to be there pre-8am. May bring the monstrousbike if it isn't snowing again.

Stepdoh - Look Mum No Hands is a great wee cafe. I stopped by there back in October and ate cake with B C Cletts.

Looks like it will be drizzling. There goes the plan to take a bike without mudguards. Tourer it is!
