Grampian Police officers receive pedal bike training

Lessons in how to get onto a bike and pedal are being given to officers from Grampian Police.

A one-day training course is accompanied by a 17-page booklet

Who here would take Joe Random from the adjacent desk in the office, give them a bike and expect them to carve it through rush hour traffic at full speed chasing an evil BMX hoodie?

One day training seems to be pretty light, when you think about it.

or god forbid a speeding car! maybe they can have instant 5pound fines for people in ASLs, just photo the car, print out a notice and slap it on the windscreen. jobs a good un!

Actually, i recon if that D MacAskill was a copper he could chase down anybody within the city bypass.

A bicycle ridden with no regard for the rules is the very fastest thing in the city.

I laugh at bike cops, but its a fearsome idea. We must have some pictures, what kit are they running? Bet its too heavy.

Remember coming across this last year when I was looking for safety vest supplier type people:

Surely a motorbike is always going to be faster than a bike, since it's the same width but has hugely better accelleration & top speed (but alas, a numberplate ;-)

There are often guys on dirt bikes zooming around Craigmillar without that attribute that would be impossible to catch on a pedal bike.

I was going to add a photo of a policeman on a bike stopping traffic on the Royal Mile 'til I realised that I didn't take it.
